Pan Laboratories offers testing for Covid-19 (coronavirus) antibodies

IRVINE, CA, April 02, 2020 – Pan Laboratories is offering a test to identify IgM and IgG antibodies to the coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2. “Testing for antibodies may help to determine the immune response of individuals exposed to coronavirus with or without the disease. This is not a molecular diagnostic test for coronavirus” said Dr. Raj Pandian, Director of Scientific Affairs for Pan Laboratories. The presence of antibodies could be an important consideration for exposed / infected individuals without any symptoms.

While further studies are required, research coming out of china suggests several benefits for antibody testing such as the following. Antibody testing could supplement current lab testing assays (RT-PCR) in the diagnosis of COVID-19. This testing could determine if infected individuals with minor or no symptoms have antibodies. It may detect the presence of antibodies in infected individuals and could prevent the recurrence of COVID-19. The presence of these antibodies could justify the screening of health care workers as beneficial to care for the infected patients. Additionally, the immune plasma from infected individuals could be potentially used in the treatment or as prophylaxis.

Pan Laboratories is currently utilizing a qualitative ELISA method to perform these tests. The lab plans to offer quantitative assays for COVID-19 IgG and IgM antibodies. For additional test information visit
